FAQ
1. What are LED grow lights?
LED grow lights utilize LED technology to grow indoor plants and other greenhouse crops. LEDs offer many benefits that traditional grow lighting, such as high-pressure sodium, metal halide, and fluorescents, do not provide.
2. What are the benefits of LED grow lights?
1. Boosted growth, density, and resin production; tighter internodal spacing
2. Long bulb life; 50,000-100,000 hours (5 to 10+ years of consecutive use)
3. Energy efficient (30-50% more efficient than traditional lighting)
4. Lower heat-load / Reduced HVAC costs
5. No ballasts or reflectors, additional cooling equipment, or bulbs to replace
6. Spectrum, dimming, timing control (some led grow lights)
7. Easy 'Plug-and-Play' setup
8. Safe to operate; No mercury
3. How many watts of LED power do I need compared to HID lighting?
Generally, 30-50% less wattage is needed depending on the efficiency of the LED grow light. More efficient grow lights exude more light while using less watts.
4. What is PPFD and why do I need to know about it?
PPFD (photosynthetic photon flux density) is a measure of the number of photons in the 400-700nm range of the visible light spectrum that fall on a square meter of target area per second. High PPFD numbers are good, because this means your plant is 'absorbing' enough light to carry out important physiological processes.
5. How far away should I setup my LED grow light from the plant canopy?
Generally, suggested distance above plants: 14"-30" according to needs.
12"-18" during seedling
24"-30" during vegetation
18"-20" during bloom
Adjust higher or brightness if you notice heat stressed leaves (wavy curling upward)
6. Can I veg with HID and flower with LEDs?
This is not recommended. Since the plants are used to a particular light intensity and spectrum, switching promptly between lighting sources could shock the plant and delay flowering. It is not unlike growing a plant indoors and placing it outside for the first time without gradually exposing it. It is more assuring to veg and flower with a single spectrum.
7. Are grow lights bad for my eyes?
Grow light has UV and Infra-red radiation that can damage your eyes. You should wear safety glasses before approaching an operating grow light.
8. How long should I keep a grow light on?
How long you keep the grow light on depends on the stage of growth of the plants. Normally, you keep the light on between 8 and 16 hours a day. You switch on the light in the morning at sunrise, and then switch it off after the prescribed hours. Young plants should get lesser hours of illumination. You continue increasing the hours as the plants continue to mature.
9. Are grow lights good for succulents?
Grow lights are good for succulents because succulents are plants that benefit from sunlight.
10. How many grow lights do I need?
It depends on the size of your grow space, please feel free to contact us to help you.
11. Can I run my grow light 24 hours straight?
It’s not recommended. Most people do 16 hours on per day for Seedling, 18 hours on per day for Veg, 12 hours on per day for Bloom
12. What's the advantage of dimmers than switches?
Dimmable LED grow light is for adjusting the PAR(Photosynthetically Active Radiation), allow you to dim the light down for Veg and increase the light intensity for flower, or to mimic seasonal light changes that some plants require.
