BT and Vodafone, the UK's leading mobile operators, have written a letter to the prime minister suggesting Huawei should be allowed to participate in the UK's 5g network construction, Huawei central reported.

According to Huawei central, telecom industry sources said that Philip Jansen, chief executive of BT, and Nick read, chief executive of Vodafone, had drafted a letter to be sent to the prime minister within a few days. The letter said banning Huawei could hurt the growth of the UK's digital economy.

Last week, senior US officials told British ministers that the use of Huawei Technology in 5g networks would jeopardize intelligence sharing. Andrew Parker, head of MI5, said there was "no reason to think" that using Huawei would change the intelligence sharing relationship with the US.

It is understood that Vodafone, BT, EE and three, the main mobile network operators in the UK, have launched 5g services using Huawei equipment. Some British government officials acknowledged that banning Huawei would cause huge losses to their customers.

According to current information, the UK will make a final decision on whether Huawei will participate in the construction of 5g network this month.
