Rogers Communications, a Canadian mobile operator, said on Wednesday that it has started to launch 5g networks in some cities in Canada, becoming the first operator in Canada to provide 5g services.

It is reported that Rogers will first launch 5g networks in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, and then expand the network coverage to more than 20 markets by the end of this year before 5g terminal devices are launched this year.

"5g is the largest technology evolution since Canada launched wireless technology. We are making the right investments, building the right partnerships and deploying the right technologies to deliver the best 5g experience for Canadians. " Joe Natale, CEO of Rogers Communications.

Rogers chose Ericsson of Sweden to build the 5g network.

Rogers also said that the company has joined a global alliance with other major telecom companies around the world, 5g Future Forum, which aims to ensure that 5g networks of telecom operators from different countries can communicate seamlessly with each other.

It is reported that other members of the alliance include Verizon in the United States, America Movil in Mexico, KT in South Korea, Telstra in Australia and Vodafone in Europe.
