The Indian government has decided to allocate 80 billion rupees (US $1.12 billion) over the next five years for quantum computing, communications and cryptography, according to nature. The budget is roughly equivalent to that of the EU ($1.13 billion) and the US ($1.2 billion).

The government's budget for quantum computing research has quadrupled in five years, compared with $27.9 million previously. The budget was previously reserved for national missions of interdisciplinary networked physical systems.

Ashutosh Sharma, Minister of science and technology of India, pointed out that India is solid in theory, but we need to build infrastructure and experimental facilities to further build our capacity. He added that it would coordinate the work of scientists, quantum computing industry leaders and government departments. The new mission will study quantum technologies for computing, communications, cryptography and material development.

The Indian government seems to have recognized the importance of technical leadership around the world, and it has also increased the total budget of the Ministry of science and technology to inr144 billion (about $2 billion). The Ministry of science and technology is responsible for supervising the departments of science and technology, biotechnology and scientific and industrial research.

Many countries and enterprises around the world have noticed the advantages of quantum computing in general computing, material science research, drug discovery and so on. According to the optimistic estimation of Google scientists, after the milestone of quantum hegemony is achieved, the power of quantum computer will increase exponentially, which will promote the development of the industry more strongly than the traditional Moore's law. This year, the Beijing Institute of quantum information science will focus on four areas: quantum state science, quantum computing and communication, quantum materials and devices, and quantum precision measurement.
