Assisted the customer in drying the sardine fillets with heat pump dryer at Araf (KA) sardine crackers factory in Malaysia. The purpose of the experiment: to explore the use of heat pump dryer equipment to replace the traditional open air drying technology, improve the quality of sardine crackers and production continuity (not affected by the weather), improve the production efficiency.

Heat pump dryer test results:
The drying test in the field work is carried out in the temperature range of 45 ℃ to 60 ℃. The recorded drying time was 3 to 4 hours. The average percentage of weight and water content decreased by 42.6% and 37.6% respectively. During the drying process, physical changes were observed in the color, shape and size of the sardine crackers. After drying, the color of the sardine crackers became darker, and the shape of the sardine crackers became curved and smaller. By determining the water withdrawal rate, the water extraction yield and the energy consumption of use, cost of drying and the value of the cost of dry weight to assess drying ability, average 1.77 kg/h, 1.37 kg/kw, 0.7 kw · / kg, 1 ringgit and 0.12 ringgit/kg, 1.6498 yuan and 0.198 yuan/kg.
Heat pump dryer test conclusion:
Economic analysis shows that the drying cost does not reach 1%, or 0.3-0.8%. This drying cost takes into account the electricity cost of each dried sardine crackers package. Productivity is 6-8 drying cycles per day, producing up to 68.4 kg of dried sardine crackers per day or 2,052 kg per month. Based on sales units (bags) of 100,300 and 600, the 087 Araf sardine crackers factory estimated payback periods of 7.1 years, 2.4 years and 1.2 years per dryer, and Cap Intan sardine crackers estimated payback periods of 3.3, 1.1 and 0.6 years per dryer.
This field work was successful and the use of heat pump dryer equipment was found to help sardine crackers entrepreneurs improve their production quality and productivity.
