So far, there are two common storage methods on the market--built-in flash memory and external storage cards. The digital voice recorder adopts analog recording and save data on built-in flash memory. The advantage is to store quickly, and the data is not lose easily when the devise is powered off suddenly. According to different technical requirement, the flash memory is able to read and write at least millions time in theory, so the cost of repeated use is very low. The flash memory is one of the most expensive part of voice recorder, the larger the capacity, the higher the price will be. The recording time is depends on the capacity of flash memory.

The external storage cards include SD card and Micro SD card (TF card) etc. They can be used in different devices, but the disadvantages is that the performance of device will not match perfectly. Sometimes the data transmission might not be able to process normally. Especially there will be a poor contact with the connecting finger of storage cards after use for a long time, which will cause wrong data. The advantages is that it’s easy to share and transfer the recording files. and it’s able to upload the data to computer with cards reader. The digital voice recorder become lighter and smaller owe to electronics components upgrading. The electronics components is getting smaller as well. When the digital voice recorders first appeared, the built-in flash memory is rare and expensive, but right now it has been used widely and massively. The price of digital voice recorder reduced a lot because the price of flash memory is getting cheaper than before.
