The Canadian Military Wants the Government to Ban Huawei from Participating in 5g Construction

The Canadian military wants the Canadian government to ban Huawei from participating in 5g network construction, the global Post reported.

On Monday, citing an unnamed official, the newspaper reported that senior military officials, including senior Canadian officers, had told the government that they believed that allowing the Chinese company to participate in 5g network construction would threaten national security.

The U.S. Trump administration has been urging its allies to turn away HUAWEI for fear that its equipment could pose security risks. U.S. officials have warned that if the Canadian government allows Huawei to participate in 5g network construction, the U.S. may be forced to stop intelligence sharing with Canada. However, Huawei has repeatedly denied such accusations as a security threat.

Canada is the only country in the "five eyes alliance" of the intelligence sharing alliance that has yet to determine its position on Huawei. Australia and New Zealand have imposed a ban on China following the U.S. approach, while the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government made a final decision on January 28 to allow Huawei to participate in 5g network construction in a limited way, which disappointed the White House.

Canada's public security minister said last month that his government was studying the UK's decision. A thorough ban will force companies such as BCE and TELUS to dismantle existing

Huawei equipment to accommodate new suppliers, the globe and Mail reported.
