U.S. Pressure On Britain to Reconsider the Decision to Allow Huawei 5g Equipment

US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo urged the UK to reconsider its decision to allow Huawei devices to be used in 5g networks, but failed to meet the threat of cutting off intelligence sharing, the Guardian reported.

Pompeio said the US has not yet fully evaluated the UK's move. He told the guardian that the US response would be based on the implementation of the plan. Efforts by the US authorities to nurture alternative suppliers will provide the UK with an opportunity to change course in the future, it added.

The United States has previously threatened to cut off intelligence sharing with its allies, especially Britain and Germany, if they do not block Huawei. Britain, Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand are members of the so-called five eyes intelligence alliance.

Although he didn't make it clear whether the limited British scrutiny of Huawei would affect the alliance or other intelligence sharing, Reuters reported that pompeio warned that the US would ensure that the network used to transmit "us information" was "credible.".

According to Bloomberg, Canada's public security minister, Bill Blair, said Canada would carefully study UK policies and weigh "measures they have taken to protect the digital environment" as part of an ongoing network device security review.
