Summary:What are the Major Types of Stainless Steel? Ningbo Luteng are experienced in stainless steel turning.

Stainless steel is an alloy of several different types of metal that, when combined, are stronger and more durable than when they are separate. By adding and subtracting various elements to stainless steel, engineers have been able to create many different varieties of the alloy, each with their own characteristics and uses. Stainless steel is a versatile metal and can be used for many different things ranging from construction to kitchen equipment. Many different types of stainless steel grades are used in food service establishments, and each type has its own pros and cons. To make an informed decision when designing or purchasing any cnc machined stainless steel parts, you should understand the major elements in the alloy, the different grading systems, and the main types of stainless steel.

303 Series Stainless Steel

303 stainless steel is the most common types used in the cnc machining parts. Easier to cnc machined. They are widely used in the bolts, shafts, gears ,screws and aircraft components.

304 Series Stainless Steel

304 stainless steel is the most common type used in the cnc machining filed. It has a bright shine due to a high level of chromium and nickel. It's also very resistant to corrosion and rust, although it's susceptible to corrosion caused by exposure to salt. Widely used in the automotive, aerospace.

316 Series Stainless Steel

Stainless steel alloy 316 is an extremely popular alloy, ideal for parts that require heat and corrosion resistance. It has very similar properties to 304, but possesses an even higher corrosion resistance, making it suitable for laboratory, medical, and marine environments. 316 is not magnetic. They are widely used in the Laboratory equipment,Valve components and Marine equipment.

430 Series Stainless Steel

Stainless steel alloy 430FR is a free-machining solenoid quality alloy, ideal for parts that require corrosion resistance and high electrical resistivity. It has excellent corrosion resistance in fresh water, gaseous, moderately acidic, and low chlorine environments. 430FR’s high silicon levels give it increased hardness, decreased deformation from impact, and increased magnetic characteristics. They are widely used in Solenoid valves and Injectors.

440 Series Stainless Steel

With a high level of carbon, 440 stainless steel is one of the strongest types used in the cnc machining filed. Products made out of 440 stainless steel are hard, corrosion resistant, and can stand up to wear and tear very well. They are widely used in Surgical and dental parts and Valve components

17-4PH Series Stainless Steel

Stainless steel alloy 17-4 PH is a hard alloy, ideal for parts that require high strength and corrosion resistance. It withstands corrosive attacks better than any stainless steel. When heat-treated, the strength and ductility of 17-4 PH is greatly enhanced.

17-4 PH has a machining cost factor of 5.0 when compared to steel 12L14. It is forgeable and readily weldable and does not require pre- or post-heating processing. 17-4 PH can be heat treated and annealed.
