Common light bulbs, such as halogen spotlights, become extremely hot when they are turned on. While this does not happen the minute they are lit, it does not take long for them to achieve a temperature where they are not possible to touch as they will burn your fingers.
This is due to the way these kinds of bulbs work. Halogen bulbs contain tungsten filaments which are similar to standard incandescent bulbs.
But unlike an incandescent lamp which only includes a vacuum, it contains a halogen gas which prevents the charring and slows down the degradation of the tungsten wire.
So as time goes by, the tungsten wire will zoom? Why?
Unlike LED bulbs, when the current passes, the tungsten filament emits white-hot light. It emits tungsten atoms, which are deposited inside the bulb and are called the "halogen cycle."
Therefore, the thin tungsten filament becomes fragile and then breaks. This leaves the bulb entirely useless. The simple fact that a filament becomes white is a hint of how scorching these bulbs turn into. That is the reason it is actually not a good idea to touch them if they are running!
But children do not realize how scorching exactly a light bulb may become, and therefore are very likely to attempt touching them when they are not under supervision even for an instant. This could result in them getting a fairly severe and debilitating burn in their hands. And, should they dislodge the bulb out of its casing, their own body too.
But this is not the only danger of halogen spotlights and light bulbs when compared to LED bulbs. In fact, the halogen gas and filament are comprised inside a thin glass casing and can be under extremely large pressure. Therefore, any impact or bump may cause hot, pressurized metal and glass to rain down on an individual's skin if they are unaware of the danger.
The combination of ultra-high temperature glass and fragile materials such as cotton is not ideal. Therefore, if these spotlights contact for a long time with curtains or even clothing contact, there is a danger of fire all the time!
Traditional bulbs are easy to break
Extremely thin glass, especially one wrapped in a vacuum environment, is very fragile and can be damaged easily.
When the bulb is physically damaged, the game is over because they will smash. This means that their bodies may be damaged and may never reach a life expectancy of 1500 hours.
So why are LEDs safer for children than halogen lamps?
LED bulbs give less heat. Even after booting for a while, it is absolutely safe to touch them.
They work in a way that is completely different from halogen bulbs, and although they do produce a small amount of heat, they are quickly dissipated by the aluminum heat sink at the bottom. Therefore, they are safe to have kids around or in near proximity to fabrics and textiles.
While some of the recently made LED bulbs contain glass, in most cases they are made of toughened plastic and do not experience any stress at all. This means they are more durable and they are less likely to break even if they fall on the floor.
Therefore, the rugged composition of the LED replacement bulb is more likely to achieve its full life of 10,000 to 50,000 hours with no accident or misfortune!
